Flower Crown Workshop

05/05/2016

Flower crowns are one of my favorite floral items to create.  There’s something so carefree and joyous about wearing flowers in your hair that makes me just smile. When Jenny Cookies asked me to teach a workshop on floral crowns for her Mother’s Day Ladies Lunch, of course I said yes! How much fun to spend the afternoon playing with flowers and eating chocolate. Sign me up! The dessert table was stunning, full of color and yummy treats. We thought hoops with flowers on them would look like flower crowns, providing the inspiration for the focal wall. Placing small clusters of flowers on the hoops gave just enough color, still allowing the gold hoops to be seen. Think this idea is one of my all time favorite backdrops! Instead of creating centerpieces for the dining tables, I placed the flowers and greens for the crowns in various sized vases and ran them down the center ofRead More

Peaches and Cream Spring Flowers

04/27/2016

One of my favorite things about designing with seasonal flowers is that the selection constantly changes. Today, I walked through my garden and picked the prettiest blooms I could find. I also had a few flowers from other local Seattle area growers, that were leftover from projects this week. I am going to show you what I chose and the arrangement I created with them. I noticed a lot of beautiful white flowers.  And these gorgeous peach poppies are just too gorgeous to pass up.  From left, the flowers I chose are: spirea, iceland poppies, clematis vine, ranunculus, garden rose, and double lilac. Not as many greens in this collection as I might normally include but that’s okay! The finished arrangement turned out just as I imagined, with flowers overflowing from one of my favorite stone urns.  The lilacs provided the foundation shape, with the spirea and clematis vines offering movement.Read More

Flower Arranging Ladies Lunch

04/02/2016

I love teaching flower arranging workshops! So I was thrilled to work with Jenny Cookies on a fun Spring Ladies Lunch where I taught the guests how to create simple spring-time arrangements. We chose bright spring colors of yellow, white and green for our color palette. Daffodils have got to be the most cheerful spring flower, with their bright yellow colors and ruffly edges.   Jenny worked her magic and created a beautiful and inviting luncheon for our guests.  They dinned on a picnic style lunch, chatted with friends new and old, and tasted some delicious treats at the end. Using locally grown flowers from my yard and other local farms, we had a great selection to choose from for our arrangements. I walked the guests through the design, step-by-step, giving them tips along the way.  They all did an amazing job!   We had so much fun!  Cannot waitRead More
