Country Wedding in Sedro Woolley

Today was a gorgeous day with beautiful sun filled skies.  Perfect for an outside wedding! The bride and groom were married at a friends house north of Seattle in Skagit County, in a stunning yard with rolling grass, ponds and trees.  To go with the outdoor setting, the bride choose a country style for her flowers.  Using seasonal garden flowers, we used bright oranges, reds, yellows and pinks. These colors looked so great against the bridesmaids turquoise dresses, making everything look cheerful and happy.

The bridal bouquet, sitting on my garden chair.  The chair is the same shade as the bridesmaid dresses, so you can see how great the flowers look against turquoise. We used lots of dahlias, garden roses and gerbera daisies. Especially love the orange/yellow dahlia shown, as it reminds me of a sunset. All the flower stems are wrapped in burlap, to carry out the country feel a bit more.

Closer look of the bouquets together.  I really like mixing red, orange and pink together.  They are similar tones in the warm spectrum, that really look good together.

The two flower girls were to wear flower wreaths in their hair. A burlap ribbon tied in the back adds to the country feel.  I so love making flower wreaths for weddings.  Flowers of any kind in someones hair is so romantic.

The corsages were kept simple, using dahlias, roses and berries. Just a nice collection of flowers to honor the special women in the bride and grooms lives.

Boutonnieres were similar to the corsages, using dahlias and berries. Really love the burlap ribbon on them as well!

Wishing the bride and groom all the happiness as they start their lives together.  I am so happy they choose me to help them fulfill their dream wedding!

Wedding at Hillcrest Lodge, Mount Vernon

This weekend I had the pleasure of helping Melissa and Robert celebrate their wedding.  Held at the Hillcrest Lodge in Mount Vernon, WA, the wedding was bright and cheerful.  Melissa chose the colors hot pink, orange and yellow, with bright green bridesmaid dresses.  She wanted her bouquet to have hot pink, orange and white flowers.

Flowers used were Rose "High & Candy", Rose "Wow", Rose "Milano", freesia, hypericum, bupleurum and asters. The bridal bouquet was so pretty, reminding me of rainbow sherbet.  Great color choices for a summer wedding.

Here is a closer image of the bridal bouquet, where you can see the flowers better.  The bi-color rose was stunning, I fell in love with it immediately.

The bridesmaids bouquets were similar but we added in the color yellow.  Aren't they adorable?  There were seven total, this is just a few of them.  Looking forward to seeing how they looked against the bright green dresses.  Should look stunning!

The bride and groom took advantage of family help and ordered loose flowers for the rest of their floral needs.  Here is how the flowers looked when I delivered them, in two and five gallon buckets of water.  They used the flowers to decorate the fireplace mantle, wedding cake and reception tables.  A great option for those brides looking to save a bit of money.

Creating Arrangements with Flowers from Your Yard

This week I have the pleasure of speaking at the Mount Vernon PEO groups meeting, discussing how to beautify your house with flowers from your yard.  I presented a condensed version of one of my flower arranging classes, Creating Seasonal Centerpieces. I had a fabulous time talking with them, laughing about life and creating gorgeous floral arrangements at the same time.  It was so much fun!

The first arrangement I showed (created ahead of time) was a peaches and cream spring arrangement.  Flowers used include tulip (single peach and double white), narcissus (Thalia), snow drop and rose leaves.

I just love this arrangement.  So feminine and romantic looking, with the narcissus and double tulips creating such a ruffly backdrop for the other flowers.  Another nice feature is that the narcissus has a soft fragrance, as do tulips. Bonus!

The second arrangement I created on site, illustrating how to build a structure/grid with the tulip stems to support the remaining flowers and foliage.  Also, I wanted to show how using a monochromatic color palette (magenta) can create an arrangement with more depth and beauty then most would believe possible.

Flowers used in this arrangement include tulip, bleeding heart, currant, peony leaves and vine maple branches.  All of these flowers were harvested from my yard. This arrangement reminds me of a cottage garden, a bit wild and overflowing.  Each element works with the next, giving the eye a new surprise to see with each turn.

If you are interested in learning how to create arrangements like these for your home, I encourage you to sign up for our classes.  These are the kinds of seasonal arrangements we create during our classes.  You learn hands-on how to work with the flowers and take home an amazing arrangement that would have cost you more then the cost of the class.  It's a great value!
